How can I file for a Maryland state extension?

If you are unable to file by April, you can request an automatic six-month extension (October 15, 2025) to file your Maryland tax return.
Use Form PVW to calculate the amount you’ll need to pay with the extension.

There are two ways to file for an extension:
  • Online: Make a Maryland extension payment electronically at Maryland's Online Service center. Payments must be made by April 15, 2025.
  • By mail:  Make and extension payment with Form PV. Payments must be made by April 15, 2025.

If you do not owe taxes, you do not need to file for an extension.

Please be aware that this is an extension to file, not an extension to pay. You will still owe interest on any tax not paid by the original due date of April 15, 2025.
