Who can use FileYourStateTaxes?
Anyone in New Jersey who uses IRS DirectFile for their federal tax return can use FileYourStateTaxes to file state taxes.
FileYourStateTaxes is an option if:
- You lived in New Jersey for all of 2024
- You earned all your income in New Jersey in 2024
- You plan to use the same filing status for both your federal and state tax returns
FileYourStateTaxes is not an option if:
- You, your spouse, or one of your dependents didn’t have Medicaid, Medicare, or other health insurance coverage in 2024, unless:
- Someone listed you (and your spouse, if filing jointly) as dependent(s) on their tax return
- You made less than $10,000 (single) or $20,000 (married)
- You need to calculate your retirement income using the Three-Year Rule or General Rule
- You want to claim credits or deductions for higher education tuition costs, interest paid on an NJCLASS student loan, or contributions to an NJBEST 529 college savings account
