Who can use FileYourStateTaxes?

In order to file your 2024 Maryland state taxes using FileYourStateTaxes, you (and your spouse) must:
  • File your 2024 federal tax return using IRS Direct File and agree to transfer your federal tax return information to FileYourStateTaxes.  See Direct File limitations here
  • Have lived in Maryland for all of 2024.
  • Have no additional income from other states in 2024.
Uncommon situations that would disqualify you from using FileYourStateTaxes:
  • You withdrew money from a first-time homebuyer account and used it for anything other than purchasing a home in Maryland in 2024.
  • You and your spouse, if filing together, had permanent homes in two different counties, cities, towns, or taxing areas on the last day of 2024.
  • You are filing married filing jointly with a deceased spouse.
  • You want to file your federal and state tax returns using different filing statuses (for example you file as Married Filing Jointly on your federal tax return and want to file Married Filing Separately on your state tax return).
  • You want to split your refund between multiple accounts.
  • You want to submit an extension to file your state taxes later.
