Who can use FileYourStateTaxes?

In order to file your 2024 Idaho state taxes using FileYourStateTaxes, you (and your spouse) must:
  • File your 2024 federal tax return using IRS Direct File and agree to transfer your federal tax return information to FileYourStateTaxes.  See Direct File limitations here
  • Have lived in Idaho for all of 2024.
  • Have no additional income from other states in 2024.
  • If you are married, you and your spouse must file 2024 taxes jointly (you cannot file “married filing separately”).
Uncommon situations that would disqualify you from using FileYourStateTaxes:
  • You received rental assistance from a federal Emergency Rental Assistance program.
  • You withdrew money from an Idaho Medical Savings Account and used it for non-qualifying expenses.
  • You withdrew money from an Idaho First-Time Homebuyer Account and used it for non-qualifying expenses.
  • You want to file your federal and state tax returns using different filing statuses (for example you file as Head of Household on your federal tax return and want to file Single on your state tax return).
  • You want to claim dependents on your state tax return that were not claimed on your federal tax return.
  • You want to submit an extension to file your state taxes later.
